For those of you who have only seen the news in passing, you'd be forgiven for believing that the report focused entirely on marriage.

The report actually had 188 policy proposals under the headings 'Family Breakdown', 'Economic Dependency and Wordlessness', 'Educational Failure', 'Addictions', 'Gambling', 'Serious Personal Debt' and 'Third Sector'

You can find the 188 policy proposals here and the individual detailed sections of the reports here

<A

Or should we be careful not to provoke?

Does this go some way to proving that these people are not, as some believe, just motivated by 'injustice' wrought upon them by the west (Kashmir, troops in Saudi Arabia, Iraq etc.) but are actually driven by an ideology which demands retribution for something as innocuous as honouring an author they disapprove of?

I know some people think it was a deliberate attempt to provoke a response. Does anyone here?

Thoughts?

<A

[Blogs] Proof that the "Left is on the rise" In the Labour Party

Does anyone have any evidence?

A recent thread on the board suggested the "the left" is becoming stronger in the Labour party. My view is that there is no evidence of this.

So, can anyone present any evidence of a leftward trend in the Labour party?

Because people seem a bit shakey about what a "trend" is - you need to show movement from right to left over time. Presenting a poll that shows how "left" the party currently is does not do that - unless you post another poll that shows that the party used to be more significantly more rightwing.

In case anyone wonders - anecdotal evidence is also worthless.

<A
